This jacket is designed to perform in cold weather. GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ provides good protection against the cold and additional protection on different sides increases protection. Thinner fabric on the back increases breathability. Ventilation zippers on the front that can be opened when wearing gloves. The fabric is very stretchy and the cut is tight to the body, i.e. Race Fit.
The jacket's GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ is a thick 299g fabric that provides excellent protection even in extreme cold and effectively wicks moisture away. When wet, it dries very quickly. By wearing Sportful's Merino Tee Long Sleeve base layer underneath, you maximize breathability in cold weather and stay warm.

The starting point was the need for a winter riding jacket for temperatures of -5 - + 5°C . This means a jacket for those with poor cold tolerance that others ride in at -20°C . And this jacket delivers . In the test, the weather was between -6 - +5°C and based on that, this one will easily handle -10°C and probably even colder .
What kind of jacket is it anyway ? The cut and size is the Race model . I'm a dry summer squirrel myself (182 cm / 70 kg) and size L is just right and not nearly enough . The sleeves are long enough so that the wind doesn't get to your wrists . The cut is clearly made for the riding position, so the rider doesn't get baggy or pick up any slack . During the break, the race cut is visible in that it feels like you have oranges in your armpits and you feel like a bodybuilder . In the riding position, the rider is aero and therefore fast .
The moisture transfer is amazingly good and, when the jacket is dry inside after a ride , the items in the back pockets are wet on the back . So I don't recommend putting your Brevet card in your back pocket without a minigrip pouch .
The pockets are a bit difficult to use as they are tight and maybe higher than you're used to , but on the other hand this only increases safety as you don't have to dig through them while riding . Strong recommendation , because this jacket is warm , windproof (no experience with waterproofing ) and fast . It's easy to overdress with the jacket , but the ventilation zippers in the front help with that .
